Theni District is one among 32 districts in Tamil Nadu state in South India. The city of Theni is the district headquarters. The district is separated into two natural divisions: The hilly areas constituted by parts of the three taluks Periyakulam, Uthamapalayam and Andipatti with thick vegetation and permanent streams from the hills on the western side and Cumbum valley which lies in Uthamapalayam taluk. According to Indian Census 2011, Theni district had a population of 12, 45,899 with a gender-ratio of 991 females for every 1,000 males. It is captivates many tourists in domestic as well as global. Vaigai Dam and park


It is built across the majestic River Vaigai near Andipatti, and the dam with a height of 111 feet can store 71 feet of water. It is 7 Kms from Andipatti, 14 Kms from Theni and 70 Kms from Madurai. This dam was opened in the year January1959. The dam is unique for the sylvan gardens envelop it with tranquillity and quiet that are soothing. The garden deserves the name “Little Brindavan.” It is a popular picnic spot for the local population, particularly school children. Here, there is a separate play area in this dam.

Mavoothu


Mavoothu has the Vellappar Temple, it is a famous attraction. This sacred shrine is located in the Varushanad hill ranges, which is 20 Kms away from Andipatti. Nestling among the hills, the temple is atop a peak, bounded by natural vegetation.

Devadanapatti

This is a main shrine in Devadanapatti is Kamatchi Amman Temple. It is located on the banks of the Manjal River. This temple is situated 3 Kms away from Devadanapatti in Theni District. Periyakulam

Veerapandi


It has the Gowmariamman Temple situated here and attracts many pilgrims. The Pandya King Veerapandi built this 14th century temple. The king is said to have regained his dream by praying to Gowmariamman and Kanneeswara-mudaiyar. Close by the temple, the perennial Mullai River runs its course. This temple is nearly 8 Kms away from Theni.

Kuchanur

Suruli Falls


Suruli falls flows from a height of 150 feet gathers into a pool, flows for a short distance and again plummets to a depth of 40 feet, offering a spectacular sight of nature’s raw and wild beauty. The opaque forests that surround it give an awesome backdrop. Amenities are available to bathe in the waters of these falls. The special feature of the fall is that it is “a round the year” fall. However, the best season to visit is June–October, when the water column is heaviest. The beauty of this fall finds mention in the great Tamil epic, Silapathikaram written by poet Ilangovadigal.

Kailasanathar Temple Cave


It is located near the Suruli Falls. There are 18 caves in and around the Suruli falls. This temple is located 800 meters above the fall and has a spring, the water is assumed to have medicinal powers and energy.

Meghamalai


It is a picturesque place dotted with tea estates and cardamom plantations. Located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, the place is rich in flora and fauna.

Velli Malai


It is a densely forested place replete with natural flora and fauna is situated 65 Kms away from Theni in the Varushanad hill ranges.

Chinna Suruli


It is also known the Cloudland Falls and is located 54 Kms away from Theni near the Kombaithozhu Village. These falls originate in the Meghamalai. This is also one of the very famous tourist spot in Theni district.

Bodinayakkanur


It is situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats. This town is famous for cardamom, mango and coffee market.

Bodimettu


It is a hill resort located at an elevation of 4500 feet and is a beautiful picnic spot. It is situated 26 Kms away from Bodinayakanur.

Tiger Falls


It is an elegant waterfall enrooted to Munnar between Bodi and Bodimettu from Theni.
