Tirunelveli - Halwa


Tirunelveli also known as Nellai. It is one of the ancient city in south of Tamil nadu, located on the banks of the river Tamirabarani. I think everyone in South India will be familiar with the well-known Tirunelveli Halwa sold at Irutukadai in Tirunelveli. This is one of my much-loved sweet. The art of sweet-making feast to other parts of Tamil Nadu, such as Rajapalayam, Nagercoil, Thoothukudi and Srivilliputhur. Palkova is a Delightful sweet made from Cow Milk and Sugar. It is prepared by bucketing lots of milk in the pot and condensing it by steaming on a gentle fire, to which sugar is added towards the end. Nachiyar Koil - Lamp & Bronze goods


Nachiar Koil is located closely 10 KMs away from Kumbakonam and 50 KMs away from the Thanjavur on the roadway of Kumbakonam to Tiruvarur. Nachiar Koil is belongs to Thiruvidaimarudur Block, Kumbakonam Taluk, Thanjavur District. It has population of nearly 10,000 inhabitants. In the year 1920s Kammalar's was creating the kuthuvilakku (Oil lamps) patterns and started the production of these lamps, which are a main traditional production in the state. About 500 families are engaged in the brass lamp production. There are about 2500 artisans existing in the cluster, spread across 10 villages.

The Salem region also lines the India’s largest number of Sago productions which are engaged in the production Sago Foods and Starch. In Salem District alone, 34000 hectares of land is under tapioca farming which is the raw material for the sago industries and there are 650 units engaged in tapioca processing. Presently, The Tamil Nadu State stands first in respect of processing of tapioca into starch & sago, in India. In India, Sago was produced first in Salem (Tamil Nadu) in 1943-44, about some 50 years ago. In Salem District alone there are 649 units establishing 89.5 percent.
