Coimbatore Road Transport

There are six main roads in the city. They are, Avinashi Road, Sathyamangalam Road, Trichy Road, Mettupalayam Road, Pallakad Road and Pollachi Road. There are three main National Highways are passing through the city.

  • NH 67 – Nagapatinam to Gundlupet (via Thanjavur, Trichy, Karur, Udagamandalam)
  • NH-47 – Salem to Kanyakumari (via Palakkad, Kochi, Kollam, Trivandrum)
  • NH 209 – Dindugal to Bangalore (via Palani, Pollachi, Sathyamangalam, Chamrajnagar, Kollegal)


Other than the state and National highways,the city maintains a 635.32 km long road network. It has several bus stations also. The town (intra city) buses run from the town bus stand in Gandhipuram to other bus stations covering the city.

Coimbatore Rail Transport

Rail transport is started in the year 1863; Broad Gauge Trains connect Coimbatore to all parts of India and Tamil Nadu. The Coimbatore Junction is well connected to all the major Indian cities. This junction is comes under the Jurisdiction of Salem Division and cater 43.5% of its divional income. It is the second largest income generating station in the Southern railway zone of Indian railways followed by Chennai Central, apart from the Coimbatore Central Junction the North junction is another important railway junction.



Coimbatore Mono Rail Project

There are three monorail routes have been proposed. Two routes covering north and south parts of the city and dual linear line cover the eastern and western parts of the city. North route of the city starts from Gandhipuram via Ganapathy, Sivanandha colony, Saibaba colony, RS Puram, Townhall, City Railway station and ends in Gandhipuram. The second route starts from Podanur via Trichy Road, Sungam, Redfields, Race Course, City railway station, Ukkadam and ends at Podanur. A linear line starts from Chinniampalayam, Coimbatore International Airport, CODISSIA, PSG Tech, Lakshmi Mills, Gandhipuram, Coimbatore North Junction, Cowley Brown Road, TNAU, Vadavalli and Thondamuthur.


Coimbatore Air Transport

The city is connected by the Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu 15 kilo meters away from the city. It caters domestic flights to major Indian cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Ahamedabad, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai Vijayawada etc., and international flights like Sharjah and Singapore. Indian Air Force, Air carnival expected to commence in 2015 with the Coimbatore International Airport.
