Karur District is situated beside the Kaveri and Amaravathi rivers in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Headquarter of the district is Karur city. The district had a population of 10,64,493 with a gender ratio of 1,015 females for every 1,000 males. Karur has significant government educational institutions, schools and colleges. The town is administered by a municipality established in the year 1874 as per Municipal Corporation Act. The average literacy rate of the district was 81.74% in 2011 Census. Kalyana Venkattaramasami Temple


Kalyana Venkattaramasami is situated at Thanthoni, 5 KMs away from Karur. It is one of the most popular temples in the Karur District. The shrine of the lord located on a raised portion of hillock. This temple is also called as South Tiurpathi.

Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple


Pasupathieswarar Temple is one of holy place of Sivalayams and it is well known for all over India. The Pasupathiswaralingam height is five feet, and bathed by the milk emission from the rudder of a cow a Rangamatha are mentioned for sculptural exquisite. Karuvur Siddhar is one of the 18 Siddhas has a separated temple in the Southwest corner of this temple.

Pugalur Murugan temple


This Murugan temple is located north west of Karur which is dedicated to Lord Subramania on a small hill at Velayuthanpalayam near Cauvery is popular for exquisite sculpture.

Iyermalai Temple


Iyermalai is one of the very famous peaks in Meru Mountain. Here the linga is a Jyothir linga which is Swayambu. This is one of the famous tourist spot in Karur. The abishek water is stored in a large bowl called Kopparai. The Kobbarai did not become full though people went on driving the Cauvery water. So the angry king took the sword and threw it on the Lingam which began to bleed. The king union from the fury fell at the feet of the Lord, who in turn pardoned him and also presented precious stone. The scar is still visible on the Linga.
